Mission and Outreach Committee

The Mission and Outreach Committee was established by Parish Council in 2004 in response to a felt need to reach out beyond our traditional systems.

Our Purpose:
  • To initiate and support mission and outreach activities within our parish
Our Goals:
  • to increase awareness within the parish of mission and outreach issues and opportunities
  • to reach out to provide practical assistance to our “neighbours” locally and beyond our community
Our Theme:
  • Who Is My Neighbour?
Ongoing support for local projects:
  • “Out of the Cold Dinners” – St. Andrew’s United and other Anglican parishes
  • Sudbury Action Centre for Youth: volunteer support and donations of clothing
  • Community Outreach program: donations of socks, shoes and other clothing
  • Samaritan Centre: supplying sandwiches on a scheduled basis
  • Sudbury Food Bank: providing food items through NAPOS (Neighourhood Action Project of Sudbury)
  • Sunrise House Orphanage, Uganda.
    Continuing parish support plus individual donations. Youth group is planning a practical support project.
    The Sunday School and Youth Groups have raised enough money to purchase almost 50 chickens and one cow for the farm project. Congratulations and thanks.
  • St. Jude's Cathedral, Iqaluit, Nunavut. This historic igloo-shaped cathedral, destroyed by an arsonist in 2005, is being rebuilt with financial support from Church of the Epiphany.
  • Local Projects -
    ongoing support to local community programs listed above.
Membership and Meetings:
  • A small core group of volunteers with others involved in focused projects, with the chair elected by the Annual Vestry and sitting on Parish Council.
  • Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 12:00 noon
Funding:
  • Core funding from the parish budget, supplemented by fund-raising activities such as a highly successful book/CD/ video sale, sales of books from the Augsberg press, and sales of PWRDF Christmas cards.
